First and foremost what is IoT?
IoT is Internet of Things in short and is a system that can include sensors, processing abilities, software that are connected and have the ability to exchange data with other systems over the internet.
Tesla and the Internet of Things
- Autopilot and Self Driving Mode
- Tesla has created a software that enables autopilot mode and self driving in all its Tesla cars.
- With the inclusive of such softwares and systems, it reduces manual task of the drivers hence improving safety and convenience.
- This IoT system also helps driver by taking over control of the car to prevent an accident.
- Updates
- Over-the-air update system
- Usually for a normal car, updating its systems are done at the dealership, and with time the software might be too complex to be updated
- Teslas updating system is different, it fixes itself. Model S was the first to have this function.
- Connectivity
- WiFi connectivity only. However, you can still enjoy music, movie and getting traffic details using bluetooth.
- Mobile Application
- Access to multiple functions such as flashing lights, locking and unlocking of car.
- Special Summon feature, to get your Tesla out of tight spaces without getting into the car.
Now let’s talk benefits of IoT in Tesla!
With all the above-mentioned features and functions relating to IoT, Tesla has set benchmarks with what more can they do.
- Operated at 1/3 cost due to its electrical production
- Find and operate cars when we ‘misplaced’ it
- Network updates saves time and money
- Overall efficiency of the car
- Safety of car with in built sensors
Great explanation of what IoTs Tesla has and how beneficial it is to the users. A suggestion for improvement is to add in a few disadvantages like how Autopilot and Self Driving Mode may be dangerous as I have seen reports that there are accidents due to it. Overall, great work with the pictures and information, keep up the good work!
